Ques:

"Sir have you seen the exams yet?
And can you help me, i need some tips for studying WD. i wasnt present
for the make up class and was wondering if you could email me any
helpful hints i would really appreciate it!!!

i asked around and someone told me that you recommended certain
chapters but they claim to not remember it!! can you refer me to the
chapters plz"

Ans:

No… I haven’t seen the exam and I won’t see it until you guys have finished written it.
Now about the way the exam will be structured –> I was JUST contacted by the the HEAD LECTURER for the course literally one minute ago, so I’ll get information about that tomorrow –> Translation, look out for another post soon

As for hints, there isn’t much that I can offer in the ‘hint dept’.
Luckily though, NCC normally has a reputation for testing their students primarily based on the contents of their recommended text book.

With that in mind, they have changed the syllabus this year and offered a new text book.
In the past the older text book for this course was TOTALLY different and focused more on theory rather than coding –> Which means if you look at a past paper, the questions were MORE theoretical. The current text book focuses more on coding.
So my first hint –> I wouldn’t focus on attempting past papers to much, since the questions asked in the pastpapers where akin to the older text.

I would attempt the questions at the END of the Chapters in the new text.
(Also, the answers to all the questions can be found at the back of the book)

"i asked around and someone told me that you recommended certain chapters"
Yes I did. As matter or fact I posted here on this site on July 28th.
That posted syllabus is the EXACTsyllabus that was given to me, when I took the job.
I’ve also made available the visual slides for the class.
As far as I have been instructed by the office that, you will be tested on the material from the text and the slides.

NB: Now the slides do contain some information that is not present in the text. (not much though)
For that reason I would suggest that you download and take a look at them. Also, the slides summarize the contents of the chapters –> So they are great for revision.

I hope this helps… And good luck with your exams.

Download Task 6 Help document here! (99.0KB)
(Last update 04th July, 2008 )

TIP:

North campus was advised to research CGI scripts. CGI is the traditional and older way that may be used process forms and talk to a database –> On PAGE 145 of your text. More popular today are application servers.
Now, in my word document, I illustrated a diagram that shows how a dynamic site works.
In my diagram, I drew a box called an Application Server. To add some clarity to my North campus people, basically the CGI script does what an the application server does (So feel free to re-label the Application Server Box with a CGI label, if you want)

MORE importantly page 143 of your text explains how to use forms to accept the information, put it into a database and respond.

Task 6 says to RESEARCH methods that you might use to accept questions and publish…

I don’t know, but do you think that an FAQ form can be done up that would allow users to submit questions, sorta like the way you guys make comments on this wordpress site?
And would it be a good idea to mention that you should have a pull down menu on that form, that sorta categorizes the FAQ’s into the VERY same enegy saving activities on your website (or some other form of categorization)?

"Depending on the community and the type of knowledge being archived in the FAQ, the entries may explicitly fall into multiple categories." -> Taken from the Task 6 document above

For example take a look at a PERFECT EXAMPLE: Western Digitals (FAQ/Knowledge Base) FORM here

I’ve said more than enough… Now use the FORCE Luke! Use the FOOOOORCE!
